What is your relationship to your studio? What does your studio represent to you? How do you feel when you are in your studio?
My relationship with my studio is of that with home, it constitutes a platform through which I explore the outside world and create my own simultaneously. The studio to the artist is a temple where sermons of Birth and Death overlap.
Do the layout, the organization and the location of your studio have an influence on the creation of your works? What role do that space, time and solitude have on your work?
The vibes of the studio within its location, the smells of colors, the noises have a huge impact on me, which subsequently manifest in my work of art.
Do you listen to music in your studio? Do you work better with some music in your ear or do you need complete silence when you are at your most creative?
The artwork itself would require a specific type of music; I have a tendency to listen to all kinds of music, with preferences to Vivaldi, Chopin, and Wagner.
What are your artistic practice and your working process? Do you plan?
The artwork has always a form of autonomy, meaning there is a thoughtful plan interconnecting with my intuition.
What your art is about?
Art must engage with the human beings and their aspirations, hopes, success, failure, despair, faith; Art is the HUMAN CONDITION visualized.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by Life and Death and what fluctuates in between.
Being an artist is hard work. Do you have sometimes doubts and struggles?
My doubts, fears and struggles arise daily like the rock of Sisyphus; it is only overcome by the instinct of survival and the intellect of a pilgrim.
Do you ever regret becoming an artist? Where does your energy come from?
I regret it every day but in the same time, I am grateful for being an artist every minute forever.
How much satisfaction do you get in response of your work?
Satisfaction is never acclaimed when tackling any subject on a canvas or on a piece of clay, the lack of satisfaction is the momentum of the next artwork to come alive.
Has the conflict that is raging in Syria since a few years had an impact on the core element of your art? What has changed?
The conflict in my beloved Syria has impacted me hugely; my approach and imagery have shifted from portraiture to symbolism and abstraction mirroring the catastrophic destruction in my homeland.
If you are living outside of Syria, has the place you are living in changed your art?
There is no doubt that what an artist creates, is rooted and contextualized within historic, geographic, and environmental aspects.
What are your hopes and dreams for yourself as an artist and especially as a Syrian artist?
The hope is to change from within, to be a free spirit, in order to reflect it externally.
١– ما علاقتك مع الاستوديو؟ ماذا تمثل لك هذه الورشة الفنية؟ و ما هو إحساسك عندما تكون داخلها؟
علاقتي بالمرسم كعلاقتي بالمنزل، فهي تشكّل قاعدة أستطيع من خلالها اكتشاف العالم الخارجي و بنفس الوقت تكوين عالمي الخاص. المرسم للفنان هو معبدٌ تتداخل فيه قدّاسات الموت و الولادة.
٢-هل تنظيم او فوضوية الورشة تؤثر على عملك؟ هل محيط الورشة، مكانها و المسافة بينها و بين مكان إقامتك تؤثر على نتائج عملك؟ ما هو دور هذا المكان و الوحدة و الوقت في فنك؟
روح الورشة بموقعهاو بضجّتها، برائحة ألوانها تترك آثارها عليّ، و تنعكس بالتالي على عملي الفني.
٣-هل تستمع الى الموسيقى في ورشة عملك؟ هل تفضل العمل في السكون ام ان نوع الموسيقى التي قد تسمعها قد تؤثّر على ابداعك؟
العمل الفني بحدّ ذاته يستلزم نوع معين من الموسيقى؛ عندي ميول للسماع الى كلّ أنواع الألحان و الألوان الموسيقية، لكنّ موسيقاي المفضلة هي فيفالدي، شوبان، و فاغنر.
٤- ما هي طريقة عملك و خطواته؟ هل تخطط لفكرة معينة ام تترك الفكرة تأتي وحدها من خلال العمل؟
الفن لديه دائماً نوع من الاستقلالية، التي تسمح لفكرة معينة و مخطط لها أن تتفاعل و تتواصل مع احساس اللحظة، مع الحدس و البديهة
٥-عن ماذا يريد ان يعبّر فنك؟
يجب على الفن أن يلتزم بالانسان، بآماله، نجاحاته، فشله، يأسه و ايمانه؛ الفنّ هو تقمّصٌ مرأيّ للحالة الانسانية
٦- ان تكون فناناً هو شيء صعب في أيامنا هذه، هل لديك أحياناً شكوك أو حواجز نفسية؟
شكوكي و مخاوفي تنشأ يومياً كصخرة سيزيف؛ لا يمكن التغلب عليها إلا من خلال غريزة البقاء و عقلية المسافر بحثاً عن أماكن مقدسة.
٧-هل ندمت يوماً على كونك فناناً محترفاً؟ و من أين تأتي طاقتك الفنية و حماسك للعمل؟
أندم كل يوم، لكن بنفس الوقت، أحس بالامتنان لكوني فناناً كل دقيقة من العمر و حتى النهاية.
٨- إلى أيّ مدى أنت راضٍ عن إنتاجك الفني؟
الرضا عن النفس ليس الهدف نهائيّاً عندما نتعامل مع موضوع على قماش اللوحة او قطعة من الطين، بينما عدم الرضا أو بالأحرى الرضا غير الكافي هو زخم و حماس للعمل الفني القادم ليُولد و يحيا
٩-بالنسبة للظروف الحالية في سوريا و منذ عدة سنوات، هل أثّرَ هذا على عملك؟ ماذا تغير ؟
الصراع في بلدي الحبيب سوريا أثّر عليّ بشكلٍ كبير؛ توجهي الفني تحول من لوحات البورتريه إلى فن رمزي و تجريدي ليعكس الدمار الكارثي الذي حلّ بوطني.
١٠- أنت تعيش خارج سوريا، هل أثّر بلد أو مدينة إقامتك على إنتاجك الفني؟
لا يوجد شكّ أنّ ما قد ينتجه الفنان مرتبط بشكل عميق بالابعاد التاريخية ويستلهم جذوره من المحيط و البيئة.
١١- ما هو مصدر أو مصادر إلهامك؟
مصدر إلهامي هو الحياة و الموت…و كلّ ما يتأرجح بينهما
١٢-ما هي أحلامك و أمنياتك، كفنان بشكل عامّ و كفنان سوري بشكل خاصّ؟
الأمل هو تغيير الداخل، ليصبح روح حرة، و تنعكس على الخارج.
