What is your relationship to your studio? What does your studio represent to you? How do you feel when you are in your studio?
The place of creation is the secret of secrets; it is a place where to reach the spaces of the soul, the beginning of a dream, the heights of absence. It is the fusion of the ego with the depths of the universe. The studio is a place of prayers and of revelation of what is hidden among us.
Do the layout, the organization and the location of your studio have an influence on the creation of your works?
The studio is the reflection of an artist’s inner world. It is crucial to keep it a tidy and organised place so not to be surrounded by disorder. It is very important to me that my studio is close to my home. These precious moments when one feels a driving urge to create, when one feels the desire to paint do not indulge distance. Of course being alone in one’s own creative haven is indispensable to feel free to search and discover.
Do you listen to music while you are working?
Music is the key to creativity, music fuels the mind and thus fuels our creativity. I always listen to music when working and the effects are visible in my paintings. The movement and the flow of lines and the harmony of colours accentuate the fluidity of my brush. Music affects the relation between warm colours and cool colours, and the global visual results. I usually listen to classical music like Vivaldi, but often I choose an Oriental melody and abandon myself to the rhythms of Oriental instruments, especially the Al Oud.
What are your artistic practice and your working process? Do you plan?
My own obsession with painting sprang out of an early passion for art, and I never lost interest, it was like a kind of continuous call. Beside my artistic project in which I have been involved since the very beginning, my artistic practice could be resumed in the search for the expressiveness of the pureness of beauty.
What your art is about?
Reality in general is the common denominator for different kinds of arts. My work attempts to communicate and to search for spirituality. Architecture is an important part of my work and I am continuously trying to find the human dimension in architecture, exploring the relationship between architecture and the human being. I have treated many other topics, as well, such as the sea, boats and women, but globally my work is based on human values.
Being an artist is hard work. Do you have sometimes doubts and struggles?
I think that it is not about whether being an artist or not, it is about the structure of the personality. I am constantly in quest of creative approaches to cognition, thus it is normal that I feel anxiety as a permanent part of my character. I have learned to build my hopes on a personal vision and ambition, I have never counted on anyone else… working, working and working… this is the secret and the way to make peace with myself and with my life.
Do you ever regret becoming an artist? Where does your energy come from?
Being an artist is a gift of God. My enthusiasm comes from my deep faith in the role of human beings to build and shape life. Art is a human message holding values of beauty, justice and goodness.
How much satisfaction do you get in response of your work?
I have never been satisfied of myself for more than a short period of time. The desire of creation is based on doubts and the curiosity to discover more and explore father horizons full of wonderment and beauty.
Has the conflict that is raging in Syria since a few years had an impact on the core element of your art? What has changed?
Syria is my biggest pain, it is all my body and soul, it is my homeland… actually this part would require a lot of time as to express all what I feel…
Everything has changed, now my soul is wounded and tired of the never-ending suffering of my country.
You are living outside Syria, has the place you are living in changed your art?
In Germany where I now live there are a lot of possibilities. Doors are wide open, so it helps me to keep going on with my art and to discover other universes of creativity.
What inspires you?
The principal source of my inspiration is the human values and the desire to discover the soul, and to liberate it from its torments.
What are your hopes and dreams for yourself as an artist and especially as a Syrian artist?
As a Syrian native I am proud of my historical and cultural heritage, and of the Middle-Eastern civilisation.
As an artist I hope to share my artistic work with the international art scene.
١- ما علاقتك مع الاستوديو؟ ماذا تمثل لك هذه الورشة الفنية؟ و ما هو إحساسك عندما تكون داخلها؟
المكان، سر الأسرار لفضاءات الروح …بدايات الحلم إلى ارتفاعات الغياب . انصهار الذات في غياهب الكون .
الورشة هي المكان…لابتهالات النفس والبوح الساكن في أقانيم الروح.
هل تنظيم او فوضوية الورشة تؤثر على عملك؟ هل محيط الورشة، مكانها و المسافة بينها و بين مكان إقامتك تؤثر على نتائج عملك؟ ما هو دور هذا المكان و الوحدة و الوقت في فنك؟
المرسم هو صورة عن عالم الفنان الداخلي … يهمني كثيراً أن يكون منظماً . لا أستطيع أن أرسم ضمن حالة الفوضى . ومهم جداً أن يكون قريباً من مكان إقامتي . والمسافة هي اللحظات الفارقة في المحافظة على الرغبة في الدخول الى عالم اللوحة . طبعاً أن تكون وحيداً في عالمك له الكثير من الأهمية وهو ما يتيح لك الإحساس بالحرية للبحث واكتشاف الجديد .
٣-هل تستمع الى الموسيقى في ورشة عملك؟ هل تفضل العمل في السكون ام ان نوع الموسيقى التي قد تسمعها قد تؤثّر على ابداعك؟
الموسيقا شي مهم في عالم اللوحة . استمع بشكل دائم ولها تأثير واضح في عملي .. انسياب الخطوط وحركتها والانسجام اللوني وحركه الفرشاة . بالاضافه للعلاقة المهمة بين الألوان الباردة والحارة وتأثيرها البصري .
استمتع بسماع الموسيقا الكلاسكية أثناء الرسم، كموسيقا فيفالدي، و أيضاً الموسيقا الشرقية ( العود )
٤- ما هي طريقة عملك و خطواته؟ هل تخطط لفكرة معينة ام تترك الفكرة تأتي وحدها من خلال العمل؟
اللوحة هي جزء مهم من هواجسي . لم تغب عني أبداً وبالتالي هي حالة من التداعيات المستمرة .
بالاضافه للمشروع الفني الذي يلازمني، والذي يتلخص في البحث عن القيم الجمالية المطلقة .
٥-عن ماذا يريد ان يعبّر فنك؟
الواقع بشكل عام والقاسم المشترك بين الفنون . هي محاولة للتواصل والبحث عن القيم الروحانية من خلال لوحاتي . و محاولة للبحث عن القيم الجمالية في مجال العمارة والتأكيد على القيم الانسانية من خلال أنسنة العماره . أيضاً عالجت عدة مواضيع منها البحر والقوارب والمرأة . بالغالب كان العمل يتمحور حول القيم الانسانية .
٦- ان تكون فناناً هو شيء صعب في أيامنا هذه، هل لديك أحياناً شكوك أو حواجز نفسية؟
بإعتقادي لا يتعلق الامر كوني فنان أو أي شي اخر . الأمر متعلّق ببنية الشخصية . في الواقع أنا في حالة بحث دائم وبالتالي القلق والتأمل من صفاتي.
دائما أبني تطلعاتي من رؤيه ذاتية. لم أراهن على احد … العمل ثم العمل ثم العمل . هو المخلص الوحيد للتصالح مع الحياة والذات في آن واحد .
٧-هل ندمت يوماً على كونك فناناً محترفاً؟ و من أين تأتي طاقتك الفنية و حماسك للعمل؟
أن تكون فنان فهو امتياز من الله . حماسي يأتي من إيماني الشديد بدور الانسان في الحياة . الفن رسالة انسانية تحمل قيم الخير و الحق والجمال .
٨- إلى أيّ مدى أنت راضٍ عن إنتاجك الفني؟
لم أكن راضٍ بيوم من الايام إلا إلى حين . الرغبه قائمة في البحث عن احتمالات جديدة وقلقي يأتي من خلال رغبتي في اكتشاف عوالم اكثر دهشة و جمال .
٩-بالنسبة للظروف الحالية في سوريا و منذ عدة سنوات، هل أثّرَ هذا على عملك؟ ماذا تغير ؟
سوريا ياوجعي ويا كلي…الحقيقة يحتاج الأمر للكثير من الكلام … تغير كل شيء . والروح أبداً
سارحة ومتعبة من الالم .
١٠- أنت تعيش خارج سوريا، هل أثّر بلد أو مدينة إقامتك على إنتاجك الفني؟
طبعاً كوني الآن خارج سوريا، الأبواب والنوافذ مشرعة والاحتمالات أكبر للمضي بعيداً في عوالم الفن .
١١- ما هو مصدر أو مصادر إلهامك؟
المصدر الأساسي في الإلهام هو القيم الإنسانية والرغبة في اكتشاف هذه الذات . رغبة في تحقيق الخلاص من عذابات الروح .
١٢-ما هي أحلامك و أمنياتك، كفنان بشكل عامّ و كفنان سوري بشكل خاصّ؟
أحلم أن أصل برسائلي إلى صالات العرض العالمية و كوني سوري أعتز بما أملك من موروث حضاري وتاريخي .
