What is your relationship to your studio? What does your studio represent to you? How do you feel when you are in your studio?
My studio is the place for my daily renewal, my intellectual and artistic activities. Each new day spent inside my studio is like a pulsing feeling of true life; inside it I can live all seasons at a time.
Do the layout, the organization and the location of your studio have an influence on the creation of your works? What role do that space, time and solitude have on your work?
Actually it is a kind of mix between organisation that gives me the possibility of reflecting and meditating, and disorder that creates in me enthusiasm and energy. The distance from the studio does not affect me; my art is connected to this place itself, where I spend the most of my time and which plays the first role in the theatre of my feelings.
Do you listen to music in your studio? Do you work better with some music in your ear or do you need complete silence when you are at your most creative?
I love to hear to music while I am painting, thinking or meditating. I think that music opens another dimension of psychological vibrations.
What are your artistic practice and your working process? Do you plan?
I believe that my work explores expressiveness and emotional processing, and also the liberation of my hands and my own feelings, letting them go as far as they are willing to go, till the painting has drawn its very last breath.
What your art is about?
My art is about the original essence of the creation of Woman and Man in the Universe.
What inspires you?
Society inspires me. For me, it is an inexhaustible source of permanent inspiration.
Being an artist is hard work. Do you have sometimes doubts and struggles?
Of course sometimes an artist may cross a bad period filled with loads of pessimism and doubts, but the creative impetus is stronger than circumstances and bigger than pessimism; and finally doubt is a necessary state of mind for keeping the soul striving toward creation and evolution.
Do you ever regret becoming an artist? Where does your energy come from?
I never felt like that, but sometimes I do think: What if I had not become an artist? What would I do then? Yet there is no other answer but: An artist.
Society with all its variations and complexities is a daily source of creation and ideas.
How much satisfaction do you get in response of your work?
Each single day where I am able to create a new artwork is a blessed day, full of optimism, and then imagination takes the next step for actual and future projects.
Has the conflict that is raging in Syria since a few years had an impact on the core element of your art? What has changed?
Inevitably wars affect people, especially the artists, their working processes, and their art in general. The continuous flow of events inspires creation as to reflect the profound quotidian changes in the Syrian society.
If you are living outside of Syria, has the place you are living in changed your art?
The integration in a new country that you choose determines a whole range of influences. Being outside of Syria affected my ideas and opened my mind on the importance of what an artist can offer to the society of his home country and the one of his transient country, and also on the association between the artwork and the artist.
What are your hopes and dreams for yourself as an artist and especially as a Syrian artist?
I am a Syrian artist, but the dreams and hopes I have are the same ones for me both as an artist than as a Syrian individual.
I hope to return soon to my studio in Damascus, to live again among the songs of the birds and the voice of Fairuz, to hear again the beautiful noises of the damascene streets. I hope that my hands will keep working and creating until I exhale my last breath.
١- ما علاقتك مع الاستوديو؟ ماذا تمثل لك هذه الورشة الفنية؟ و ما هو إحساسك عندما تكون داخلها؟
ـ الإستوديو هو المكان الذي يعطيني حِس التجدد اليومي ؛ والنشاط الفكري. وكل إشراقة جديدة بالمرسم هو شعور جديد بالحياة الحقيقية الملموسه. أشعرُ داخله بكل الفصول .
٢-هل تنظيم او فوضوية الورشة تؤثر على عملك؟ هل محيط الورشة، مكانها و المسافة بينها و بين مكان إقامتك تؤثر على نتائج عملك؟ ما هو دور هذا المكان و الوحدة و الوقت في فنك؟
ـ حقيقةً يُخالجني الإختلاط بين حب التنظيم الذي يعطيني الشعور بالتأمل والتفكير وبين الفوضوية التي تُلامس فيني حِس التحمس والنشاط العملي. أما البُعد والقرب عن ورشة العمل فلا يؤثر عليّ ؛ الفكرة عندي إحساسك بالمكان الذي يلعب دور كبير في فِكري ويأخذ من وقتي العُمري .
٣-هل تستمع الى الموسيقى في ورشة عملك؟ هل تفضل العمل في السكون ام ان نوع الموسيقى التي قد تسمعها قد تؤثّر على ابداعك؟
ـ أحبُ جداً الإستماع إلىٰ الموسيقىٰ أثناء التفكير ، الرسم ، والتأمل. فالموسيقىٰ عندي بُعد آخر للتموجات النفسيه .
٤- ما هي طريقة عملك و خطواته؟ هل تخطط لفكرة معينة ام تترك الفكرة تأتي وحدها من خلال العمل؟
ـ يعتمد عملي علىٰ الحِس التعبيري وإطلاق العنان لليدين والإحساس للتعبير كما يريدو حتىٰ النفس الأخير من العمل..
٥-عن ماذا يريد ان يعبّر فنك؟
ـ عن المكنون الأصلي لتكوين الأنثى والذكر بالكون .
٦- ان تكون فناناً هو شيء صعب في أيامنا هذه، هل لديك أحياناً شكوك أو حواجز نفسية؟
ـ لابد من أن الفنان يمر بأوقات كثيره فيها من التشاؤم وفيها من الشك ، ولكن الحس الإبداعي أقوىٰ من الظروف وأقدر علىٰ التشاؤم ؛ والشك حاله ضرورية لإستمرار الإبداع والتطوير .
٧-هل ندمت يوماً على كونك فناناً محترفاً؟ و من أين تأتي طاقتك الفنية و حماسك للعمل؟
ـ لم يتملكنِ يوماً إحساس الندم ، ولكن بدر إليّ فكرة لو لم أكن فنانه ربما ماذا كنت ؟ لا جواب سوىٰ فنانه. ويُفترض بأن المجتمع بكل أطيافه المختلفه هو مشروع حماسي يومي للعمل .
٨- إلى أيّ مدى أنت راضٍ عن إنتاجك الفني؟
كل يوم يكون فيه نِتاج جديد يكون يوم رضا يحوي مايكفي من التفاؤل والتفكير فيما بعد . ـ
٩-بالنسبة للظروف الحالية في سوريا و منذ عدة سنوات، هل أثّرَ هذا على عملك؟ ماذا تغير ؟
ـ الحروب مؤثره دائماً علىٰ الفنانين والحركات الفنيه بشكل عام ؛ ولابد من أن هناك روح من العطاء خُلقت من الأحداث والمعطيات الإجتماعية اليومية في سوريا
١٠- أنت تعيش خارج سوريا، هل أثّر بلد أو مدينة إقامتك على إنتاجك الفني؟
ـ الإنفتاح علىٰ المدن المختاره من قبلك هي الكفيله بالأثر الذي تتركه ؛ نعم أثَّر تواجدي خارج الوطن سوريا علىٰ طريقة فهمي وإدراكي للإسم الفني الذي يصنعه الفنان .
١١- ما هو مصدر أو مصادر إلهامك؟
ـ المجتمع هو المصدر الوافر للإلهام الدائم.
١٢-ما هي أحلامك و أمنياتك، كفنان بشكل عامّ و كفنان سوري بشكل خاصّ؟
ـ العام هو الخاص لأني سورية وفنانه سوريه بكلتا الحالتين ؛ وأتمنىٰ دائماً أن أصبح بمرسمي الدمشقي أحيا بصوت العصافير وفيروز مع الاصوات المختلطة بالحارة الشامية ؛ وأن تكون ريشتي تعمل إلىٰ أن تغفىٰ عينيّ مع آخر نفس .
